Changing Jobs in Bahrain? Do You Need to Attest Your Certificate Again?

You finally get the new job offer in Bahrain. Better role, better salary, fresh start. Then HR asks for your degree certificate. The first thought is usually: “I already attested this when I came to Bahrain. Do I really have to do it all over again?”
In many cases, no. Changing employers does not automatically mean repeating certificate attestation in Bahrain for the same qualification. What matters is whether the certificate was properly authenticated before, whether your new occupation requires it, and whether another authority needs fresh verification.
Do I need to attest my certificate again when changing jobs in Bahrain?
Usually, not just because you changed employers, Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority treats an expatriate employee transfer as a separate employment procedure. LMRA also offers a separate service to change an employee’s registered occupation. There is no general requirement published by LMRA stating that the same degree must automatically be re-attested every time you move to another employer.
If your certificate has already completed the required authentication and remains acceptable for your new role, you may be able to use it again. However, always check before assuming.
When might certificate attestation be required again?
- You move into a different profession
- Your new employer asks for an authenticated qualification
- Your previous certificate was never fully authenticated
- You are submitting a different or higher qualification
- A professional regulator asks for fresh verification
- Your degree details do not match the profession being applied for
Is degree attestation required for a new job in Bahrain?
It depends on the job. Degree attestation in Bahrain may be required if the new role needs a specific educational qualification. If the profession does not require one, attestation may not be necessary. Always check the job category before starting the process.
What about regulated professions?
Regulated professions, such as healthcare, may need more than certificate attestation.
You may also need:
- Qualification verification
- Professional licensing
- Experience certificates
- Approval from the relevant authority
So, changing jobs in a regulated profession can involve extra checks before the new role is approved.
Does an attested certificate expire when you change jobs?
No. Changing employers does not normally cancel an already attested certificate.
You may need to resubmit it for review, but that does not necessarily mean the full attestation process must be repeated. If your new profession has different qualification requirements, additional verification may still be needed. It is always better to check the new job category before starting any fresh attestation.
What if my degree is from another country?
The authentication route depends on where your certificate was issued. Bahrain has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 2013. For qualifying public documents between countries where the Convention applies, an Apostille may replace traditional diplomatic legalisation. Other cases may follow the relevant authentication or legalisation procedure. Because the route varies by issuing country and document type, it is worth checking before sending your original certificate anywhere.
What about Bahrain employment certificate attestation?
Experience or employment certificates may also become important when your new role requires proof of previous work experience. This is particularly common in regulated professions. For example, NHRA qualification procedures may include educational qualifications, professional licences, and experience records. Do not attest every document automatically. First confirm exactly what your employer or regulator requires.
Changing jobs? Check before you attest again.
Before repeating certificate attestation in Bahrain, ask three simple questions:
- Is my existing certificate already properly authenticated?
- Is my new occupation in Bahrain different from my current one?
- Has the employer or professional authority specifically requested new authentication or verification?
If the existing attestation is acceptable, repeating the entire process may be unnecessary.
